Biography:
Dr. Hung Cao is affiliated with the University of New Brunswick as an Assistant Professor of Computer Science. He is a founding member and director of the Analytics Everywhere Lab - a multidisciplinary research group focused on critical thinking, excellence, and innovation to foster future digital transformation and solve societal challenges. Dr. Cao received his Ph.D. in Geomatics Engineering (specializing in Data Science) and Diploma in University Teaching from the University of New Brunswick in 2020 and 2018 respectively. He also received his M.Sc. in Computer Science from the University College Dublin (Ireland) in 2015, and the B.Eng. degree in Computer Engineering from the VNUHCM-University of Information Technology (Vietnam) in 2011.
Prior to his current position, he worked as a PostDoc Fellow and a Data Scientist at the People in Motion Lab, UNB to invent the "Analytics Everywhere" framework to analyze different kind of data (e.g., spatio-temporal data, transit data, parking data, health data, etc.) coming from different sensors, IoT devices. He has been involved in different research projects (MITACS, NSERC Engage, NSERC/Cisco IRC projects) collaborating with different companies, including Cisco, NB Power, Rimot, The Black Arcs, Codiac Transpo, HotSpot, and so on to develop working prototypes that could be used as a template for the company’s products. From 2011 to 2014, he was with the VNUHCM-University of Information Technology as a Researcher and Lecturer of Computer Engineering.
Dr. Cao has been a member of 15 Technical Communities (e.g. IEEE Smart City, Internet of Everything, Big Data, Cloud Computing, Intelligent Informatics, Wearable and Ubiquitous Computing, etc.). He has served as a TPC member, conference session chair, and scientific reviewer invited by many conferences and journals. He is currently a Topic Editor appointed by Electronics Journal. His research portfolio bridges the area of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), Internet of Things (IoT), Embedded AI, Edge/Fog/Cloud Computing, Machine learning, Data Science, Context-enriched Analytics, Streaming Analytics, Decision Intelligence, Hyper-Automation, TinyML/Federated Learning, and Real-time System.
